Bali High, A Spiritual Journey in the Lap of Luxury

Oh, it took me a long time to get to Bali! I had been wanting to go to Bali since I wrote a report about Indonesia in fifth grade!  Pushy was willing to take me anywhere in the world to celebrate my (gulp!) 70th birthday, but where would it be?  Someplace beautiful! Someplace I hadn't been before! Some place spiritual! Bali's time had arrived! I will never forget a girl in high school who came up to us while we were all...

Legendary Beverly Hills Garden Tour

The Virginia Robinson Garden's Annual  Tour is one of my very favorite springtime events. On this day, chic women decked out in sunglasses, pearls, garden hats and flats, and men sporting that bare ankled "I just stepped off my yacht look" delight in being Looky Loos of the highest order! The tour is a highlight of the Beverly Hills Spring social season and offers a rare opportunity to step behind the gates of some of Beverly Hills most gorgeous estates. This...

Hip hip hooray for Karl Lagerfeld and his fantastic line, Karl Lagerfeld Paris.  He has successfully democratized fashion by creating a chic and stylish line any girl can afford!  As you all know by now, I am a total Chanel Girl, having worn it consistently since the first year Karl started designing for Chanel. I got my first Chanel outfit for Christmas in 1983.  And I have to say, I am totally impressed with this collection! A few weeks ago I...

His and Hers

Picky and Pushy have been happily married for  a very long time! Forty seven years!  People ask us what the secret is to our happy marriage.  Well, we have lots of them, like listening to each other and listening to Cole Porter love songs.  As Cole would say, and we would agree,"Birds do it, bees do it, even chic Malteses ( a little poetic license) at the Ritz do it, Let's do it! Let's fall in love!" But another secret is...

Christmas in Paris

We cannot celebrate Christmas without thinking of Christmases Past.  Although Christmas usually finds us snug in our sweet beds in Malibu, we have also spent it in other places like Venice, Las Vegas, Arizona at the Boulders, Taos and our most magical one at the El Rancho Motel in Gallup New Mexico.  (more about that on another day). But today we want to share Christmas 2009 with you.  Just a few days before Christmas we suddenly  decided we wanted to...

What’s in my Closet? My Fall 2016 Shoe Wardrobe

The leg lengthening allure of Coco Chanel's cap toe shoes is as popular today as in the 60's! Although we have a choice of color combinations today, the original idea was that you could have one pair of shoes that would go with everything. Keep that in mind when you are packing for a trip!  The basic tan and black goes great with black, tan, white, or almost any color, and work for  daytime or evening...

Lunch with Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco

Today I am going to pop back to a fabulous day in May.  I was thrilled to be invited by my very sweet and thoughtful friend, Ricki Ring, to join her at a luncheon hosted by the Blue Ribbon for Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco!  Princess Charlene discussed her life in the palace.  She was an Olympic swimmer who met Prince Albert when he presented her with a swimming prize.  She was in Los Angeles promoting The Princess...

Thanksgiving Flower Arrangement Ideas

Thanksgiving is almost here!   Here are photos of arrangements I've created in the past.  Though there are similarities in style throughout, there are also marked differences in color schemes and flowers.  I love to bring stems of autumn leaves into the house. And  I LOVE to make really long arrangements.  I call them "Floats" because they remind me of Rose Bowl Parade floats.  Funny, as you look through the photos, you will also notice design changes in my kitchen...

How to Get That Cozy November Feeling

As soon as we turn the clocks back each fall, all I want to do is cuddle up with Tony and Romeo, make something really comforting for dinner, light all my candles and enjoy the season.  Seasonal flower arrangements are essential to getting into the mood. The is not the time for tulips even if you can get them at the flower market. This year I started with this look.  I found these really great English candlesticks at a little...

Chanel Cuba Party at Chateau Marmont

On Wednesday morning my horoscope encouraged me to simply enjoy life's little perks. And just like that, presto sesame, up popped a fabulous perk when Chanel hosted a super glam party at the Chateau Marmont  showcasing the Chanel Cuba Resort Collection.  It was hot weather for October in LA at 84 degrees at night!   But it was perfect for the theme. Exotic palm trees, a Cuban band around the pool, mojitos, champagne, and Cuban croquettes created an escape to Havana...

Ace Gallery Dinner for Ruth Pastine and Gary Lang

Last Thursday night we attended an incredible dinner in honor of Ruth Pastine and Gary Lang at Ace Gallery Beverly Hills.  Gary is probably best known for his amazingly colored concentric circles.  This exhibition features his recent work, such as "Rising", the 24 piece panel at the end of the room and the faceted paintings on the left gallery wall. The black and blue gradient painting is by Ruth Pastine.  Her exhibition," Ethereal Material",  explores  the viewer's perception, color theory and...

At Pucci, Everything That Goes Around Comes Around Again

Pucci 1969-70 It is fun to compare the designs of Emilio Pucci to the current Pucci  designer, Massimo Giorgetti.  To the left is a piece from 1969-70 designed by Emilio Pucci, which I donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  Everything about it dates it to the late 60's,  the pattern and especially the color scheme, although it definitely doesn't look out of date.  To the right is a piece designed by Giorgetti  (born in 1977)...

My Powder Room Makeover

I have a tiny powder room that has mirrored walls, a mirrored ceiling, and a floor that looks like glass.  It also has a glass sink, glass countertop, and an interesting tower of woven aluminum and beads. It was pretty dramatic before. But then I found a laser light at CVS drugstore.  I originally purchased the light for my garden.  And I still have one down there.  But Pushy got the idea of taking it into the powder room.  He  plugged...

A Bathing Suit Wardrobe

It's mid September and there is a slight chill  in the air today.  Here in Southern Callifornia, September and October are usually our warmest days of the year. For me, Swimsuit Season is not over!  I actually wear a bathing suit almost every day.  My Eres tank suits are perfect for yoga.  And of course I have a whole wardrobe of suits to choose  to wear on our  beach or in our spa.  I even wear a bathing suit while...
